Greg Fennig, Vice President of Public Affairs for Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) will accept the first place national award for IPL’s work with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., at the 52nd Keep America Beautiful national conference held in Orlando, Florida on Friday, December 9th, 2005.

The Keep America Beautiful National Award recognizes local corporations whose commitments to community improvement contribute to more beautiful, cleaner, and improved neighborhoods and public spaces. 

Keep America Beautiful, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their local community environments, is the nation’s largest community improvement network, with millions of volunteers nationwide. 

“Indianapolis Power & Light Company has been synonymous with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.’s community work for over a decade,” says, David Forsell, President of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. “Their commitment is significant and deep, from providing operating dollars for our neighborhood revitalization work, to buying hundreds of trees for neighborhoods and parks through the Trees for Tomorrow program, which is a truly productive effort between Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, IPL and the City of Indianapolis.”

Through the Project 180o/IPL Revive A Neighborhood Program, IPL supports partnerships with neighborhood-based organizations to help eliminate blight and provide neighborhoods with the expertise and resources to revitalize Indianapolis neighborhoods. The primary program initiatives are developing pocket parks from vacant lots, community tree-planting projects and home improvements.

Since 1995, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. and its neighborhood partners have planted more than 11,000 trees, improved hundreds (insert actual number?) of homes, and have created numerous community parks, gardens and greenspaces.
