To fuel the new CCGT power plant and distribute the energy it generates, IPL installed a gas pipeline and upgraded an existing transmission line. Click here for a fact sheet and map for these projects.
IPL chose Vectren to build, own and operate the pipeline that will provide natural gas to the natural gas plant. Vectren, an Indiana company with a long history for building and operating industrial gas supply infrastructure, was chosen through a competitive process.
The 16” pipeline connects IPL to two sources of natural gas, running from the existing Texas Gas Transmission and Rockies Express pipelines to the Eagle Valley power plant at 4040 Blue Bluff Road, Martinsville, IN. Vectren acquired easements from some property owners along the route, which spans Morgan and Johnson counties.
The pipeline project, which began in April of 2016, is complete.
IPL upgraded a 138KV transmission line utilizing IPL’s existing towers from the IPL Eagle Valley CCGT power plant to its Franklin Township substation. This transmission line was required to move the power from the new plant to the Central Indiana transmission grid and will help IPL maintain its record of ranking nationally for its reliability performance.
Throughout the construction process, IPL employees and contractors from POWER Engineers worked along the transmission line route, which spans Morgan, Johnson and Marion counties. Land Services, Inc., a subcontractor of POWER Engineers, assisted with permits and information.
Construction of the transmission line project, which began in the summer of 2015, was complete in October 2016.
