IPL administers and supports many initiatives and events throughout the community that foster the preservation and protection of our natural resources. A few of these are briefly described below.
Falcons – Peregrine falcons have homes at IPL’s Harding Street Station and Petersburg Generating Station.
Earth Day Indiana Festival -- IPL sponsors the Earth Day Indiana Festival on the last Saturday of April. The free festival focuses on the health of the environment with exhibits on air, water, land, quality of life, recreation, transportation, waste, wildlife, energy, and more.
"Indy Free Tree" Tree Giveaway -- On Arbor Day each year, IPL partners with community organizations to give away 1,000 free trees at IPL’s headquarters at One Monument Circle. The purpose of the Indy Free Tree program is to promote stewardship of the environment as well as to educate the public of the importance of trees and planting the “Right Tree in the Right Place.”
IPL Mayor’s Lunch for Parks – IPL partners with the Indianapolis Parks Foundation to support the IPL Mayor’s Lunch for Parks, which raises money for park projects and the development and improvement of parks in the community. IPL has been the presenting sponsor since the first luncheon in 2003.
IPL Project Greenspace – This program supports partnerships with neighborhood-based organizations to help eliminate blight and revitalize neighborhoods and public spaces.
IPL Trees for Tomorrow -- IPL has joined forces with Indy Parks/Department of Public Works (DPW), Indianapolis Downtown Inc. and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to plant more than 15,000 trees since 1990.
JCC’s Earth Day Community Celebration -- IPL co-sponsors this annual free, family-friendly event, which includes more than 30 hands-on activities, builds community and promotes environmental sustainability. This year's event is on April 23, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Right Tree, Right Place – IPL enlists your help in preventing power outages by following power-friendly guidelines when planting trees.
