at Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), we are very proud of our
employees who contribute their talents and thousands of hours of their time to various organizations and charities in the communities where we live, work and serve. These talents
were once again put on display the last week of September in partnership with Indy DO! Day
and the It’s My City coalition.
DO! Day consists of several days when the people of Indianapolis get to know
their neighbors, take ownership of their neighborhoods and take care of one
another. It’s about pride, shared ownership, and stronger relationships. It’s
about building the most civically-engaged community in the nation where every
day is a Do Day.
kick off Indy Do Day this year, IPL was proud to partner with It’s My City,
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Eli Lilly & Co., local artists and thousands
of Hoosier volunteers to break a Guinness World Record – by creating the
largest display of chalk pavement art – 4,000 feet long and 5 feet wide! This
city-wide initiative was designed to help raise awareness of living in a clean,
green, and beautiful city through art.
Fun facts about this record breaking initiative:
- Miles Chalked: 36
- Boxes of sidewalk chalk used: 900
- Pounds of sidewalk chalk used: 8,095
- Pieces of sidewalk chalk used: 113,400
Volunteers also worked tirelessly to clean up litter along 36 miles of Indianapolis trails and sidewalks. Our people also had the great
pleasure of working with local artists to leave behind small chalk murals spreading
It’s My City message of “clean, green, and beautiful.”
