IPL named recipient of the 2016 ReliabilityOneTM Award for Outstanding Midsize Utility

2016 ReliabilityOne award
IPL was recognized for the second year in a row by PA Consulting Group, Inc. as a recipient of the 2016 ReliabilityOneTM Award for Outstanding Midsize Utility, recognizing the very best Midsize investor-owned utilities in the United States. Awards are given to utilities that excel in delivering reliable energy to their customers.

“At IPL, we are honored to be recognized for our efforts in delivering safe, reliable and affordable electricity that our customers depend on year round,” said Joe Bentley, AES US Vice President of Customer Operations. “IPL remains dedicated to being a low-cost and reliable utility, and we are proud that we have ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in reliability.”

All midsized utilities operating electric delivery networks in North America are eligible for consideration for the Outstanding Midsize Utility award. The selection of provisional recipients is based primarily on system reliability statistics that measure the frequency and duration of customer outages. After provisional recipients are selected, each company undergoes an on-site certification process, which provides an independent review and confirmation of the policies, processes and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company’s reliability results.

“With the ultimate end goal being reliability, the next generation of utilities must build not only a technologically-sound infrastructure, but must also inspire total commitment from their employees in order to create a culture of innovation,” said Derek HasBrouck, PA Consulting Group’s ReliabilityOneTM Program Director. “IPL is an outstanding example of how that commitment enables our mission of reliability to be fulfilled successfully.”

Incentives available in 2017 to fund energy-efficiency projects

IPL launches an improved outage map on IPLpower.com

new outage map iplpower-com

IPL announces a new look and enhanced features to the outage map on IPLpower.com. Improvements made to this map include enhanced functionality and better design to improve the user experience.

“The upgrades we’ve made to the outage map come from listening to feedback from our customers and learning from best practices within the utility industry,” said Rafael Sanchez, IPL President & CEO. “We are focused on providing fast and accurate information to our customers who utilize the map to make better informed decisions if they’re affected by a power outage.”

IPL customers will benefit from the redesigned outage map in a number of ways:

  • Better navigation
  • Estimated times of restoration when available
  • Enhanced outage location information
  • A mobile-friendly experience
  • Zoom capabilities

Remember to use your Service ID number when reporting an outage. This is the best number to use if you have multiple services, because each address has its own unique Service ID.

The Service ID number can be found on your IPL bill under the black bar titled “Metered Electric and Other Services.” Unlike the meter number,  which can change, the service identification number is permanently assigned to the specific address given when a service is established with IPL.

Winter Safety Tip --- Stay away from downed power lines

Winter is coming! Stay safe and always assume downed lines are energized. If a downed line is accompanied by fire, immediately call 911. If there is no fire present, call IPL at 317.261.8111 to report the downed line.

Also, do not touch a downed line or anything contacting it, such as a tree branch or fence. Electricity can be conducted through the item to you and cause serious injury or death.  More safety tips can be found here.

Help IPL "Keep the Lights On" as daylight fades

An easy call or click can "Keep the Lights On" in Indianapolis. IPL makes every attempt to answer a repair request within two working days of the initial report barring natural disasters, acts of God or the inability of IPL to gain safe access.

IPL also urges customers to call IPL directly at 317.261.8111 to report issues associated with public safety, such as a light or light pole that has fallen or been seriously damaged, or exposed wires at a light pole base.
