Think energy efficiency as Daylight Saving Time ends

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 12 at 2 a.m.
As Central Indiana enjoys more evening sunlight this spring, remember a few
simple steps than can make a difference when it comes to effectively managing
- Choose LED lighting: Replace old
incandescent bulbs with newer light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. According
to energy.gov, replacing just 5 of your home’s most frequently used lights
with energy-efficient ENERGY STAR bulbs could save you $75 a year in
- Reduce Water Heater Temperature: Check the
temperature of your water heater. Lowering your water heater’s temperature
and installing low-flow showerheads could reduce energy and your water
- Utilize Electronic Power Strips: Plug
electronic devices into a power strip and turn it off when not in use to
avoid phantom power usage.
- Sign up for IPL PowerToolsSM: Take
advantage of IPL’s 12 energy-efficiency programs geared toward helping
customers effectively manage their households’ energy usage and electric
IPL would also like to remind customers that Daylight Saving Time is a good reminder to check their smoke alarms and change the batteries if needed.
